You eat, sleep, and breathe sports. Hell, you even watch Arena Football, and Women’s Field Hockey. You my friend, are a sports fan! But you can’t spend all your time sitting on the couch, flipping through the 237 sports channels on your cable box… Can you? Of course not! So let’s go through the list of the top 5 iOS apps for sports fans.

You’ll need these for when you have to do important things like go pick up some snacks, grab a case of beer, or attend that wedding your fiancée says you HAVE to attend. (That would be the one where you’re marrying her…) So, without further ado, and as usual, in no particular order, here they are!

ESPN ScoreCenter If you thought any other sports app would be at the top of this list, go see the coach and turn in your protective cup. ESPN is the granddaddy of all sports channels, and has been covering nothing but sports since 1979.

The ESPN ScoreCenter app works on both the iPhone and iPad, and covers all major sports. It will keep you up to date on the scores, news, and standings from hundreds of sports leagues around the world.

It features personalized scoreboards, live game details, in game stats, box scores, summaries and league standings. Set up your favorite teams on the “My Teams” card, and follow everything you love on one screen. The app will also give you scoring alerts, big plays, and final scores via push notifications.

NFL ’12 I’m partial to football myself, and now that the pre-season has begun, I don’t go anywhere without this app on my iPhone.

NCAA Sports If your a college sports fan, here’s the app to keep track of the old alma mater.
