Apple Has Been “Completely Blown Away” by iPhone 5 Demand

“If you snooze, you lose,” was never as true as it was overnight, as those who decided it was more important to get a good nights rest than to snag an iPhone 5 on pre-order have waken up to find that the pre-order cupboard was bare.

AllThingsD:

Late-sleeping early adopters may be unhappy to hear that pre-order inventory of its new iPhone 5 has been depleted, but Apple’s pretty happy with the level of demand it’s seeing. “Pre-orders for iPhone 5 have been incredible,” Apple spokeswoman Nat Kerris told AllThingsD. “We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response.” As one might expect, considering ship time estimates slipped to two weeks just an hour after the iPhone 5 became available for pre-order.

It took iPhone 4S pre-orders about 22 hours to sell out last year. iPhone 5 pre-orders were gone in about an hour.

Those who missed the early shift can still order online, but the Apple Store online now shows an estimated delivery date of “2-3 weeks,” Verizon’s advertised ship date has slipped to Sept. 26 delivery, and AT&T is saying new orders would ship within two to three weeks. Sprint, however, still shows Sept. 21 for 32GB and 64GB models.

Of course, if you’re a “people person”, you can always get up early on the 21st and hang out with all the others who thought a few hours sleep were worth more than an iPhone 5. Don’t worry, some of the Apple Stores will have free coffee. And you’ll have fun chatting with all the early-morning cleaning people and the mall-walkers.

Seriously people! Where WERE your priorities?

Of course, I guess not all is lost. If you’re willing to settle for a Timex, instead of a Rolex, I hear there are plenty of Android phones available at all the carriers.
