The Evolution of the iPhone, From the Original to the iPhone 5 (Pics)

A lot has changed since the original iPhone was released in 2007. Over the last 5 generations, the iPhone has changed form a number of times, growing gradually thinner, lighter, and now with the iPhone 5, taller.

The above image, captured by iMore, shows how the iPhone’s profile has changed over the years. It’s interesting to see how the various elements of shape and thickness have changed.

The iPhone’s profile is certainly not all that has evolved – additional images show how the face, shape, and even the size of the SIM card required to use the device on many carriers have changed significantly as well. We’ve assembled a few of the images below. Make sure to check out the original post at iMore to see the full set!

The iPhone to the iPhone 3Gs where all the same form factor (no real design changes) and the iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5 where all the same form factor (no real design changes either).

And the OS has not changed one bit.

Concerning the design, Apple knows what they’re doing, the iPhone is probably the most iconic mobile design in the universe.

Yeah the front of it is “iconic”, the os is “iconic” but it would not be how it is without android.

I would say the iPhones have affected all other smartphone then the other way around. Who knows where the smartphones would be today had not Apple entered the field.

          1. Aidan Taylor says:

So what about black berry? Windows Phone? Both inspired apple.

Without android there would be no siri, no notifications bar, no background changing, no moving applications around, no app store at all in fact because google came up with applications!

Yes Android wins. You happy? Do you want a medal for that?
