iPad-Controlled Lighting: Coming Soon to the Streets of London

The streets of London will soon play host to an intriguing new iOS smart accessory – iPad-controlled street lights! Westminster City Council will be installing smart street lights that can be controlled by an iPad.

iMore reports (via West London Today):

Westminster City Council has announced that it will soon be rolling out new smart street lighting that can be controlled with an iPad. The new smart street lights will replace around 14,000 central London street lights over the next four years.

The system is the first of its kind in the U.K., and is intended to help save energy costs by allowing streetlights to easily monitored and maintained by officials and workers. The technology will save taxpayers an estimated £420,000 a year starting in 2015/2016 when they are installed. It will also allow engineers to alter the brightness of lamps depending on conditions, as well as the needs for certain stretches along streets.

It’s pretty amazing to see all the intriguing new ways iOS devices can help manage the world around us!
