New iMac and iPad mini Reported to be in Short Supply Until 2013

DigiTimes is reporting that both the iPad mini and iMac are expected to be in short supply through the rest of the year. Display production is reported to be the culprit in both shortages.

MacRumors:

For the iPad mini, the panels have reportedly seen low yield rates, especially from one of Apple’s suppliers. As a result, Apple may only reach 6 million of an estimated 10 million target for iPad mini shipments in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The sources also reported that the new iMacs are using panels produced by only one source, LGD. The new production process developed by the company to produce the iMac panels has limited capacity, which is leading to shipping delays.

Yields of display panels for both products isn’t expected to reach target capacity until the first quarter of 2013.

It should be noted that DigiTimes has a spotty track record in some of their past reports, so it’s definitely grain of salt time when considering this report.

Apple announced this week that the new iMac would go on sale this Friday November 30th, but the 27″ model would not begin shipping until December.
