British School Forces Parents To Buy iPads For Children

We know that iPads have had a huge impact in education, and a school in Yorkshire, England is now forcing parents to buy their kids iPads, The Daily Mail reports. Understandably this has caused outrage, like a similar situation in Belgium earlier this year.

One parent said that it could create a ‘two tier’ system, while concerns about security were also raised.

The anonymous parent said many people’s concerns surrounded security, as 1,400 iPads would be carried in and out of the school on a daily basis.

‘As a parent, you would do anything you can for your child,’ he added.

‘You don’t want your child to be the only one in the class who hasn’t got one.

Many parents will struggle to afford Apple’s tablet, even though it is a good step to take in order to modernize teaching methods. The alternative is that the school rents them out, however due to budget, I imagine that would be difficult.

In response, the headmistress said:

It’s important to adapt to the constantly changing needs of students so they can reach their full potential.

‘We understand buying an iPad is not a cheaper option, but we believe it is a very worthwhile investment.’

Technology moves fast, and it’s important to keep with the times, but you would think the school could at least help in covering the cost…
