Leaked ‘iPad 5’ Casing Photos Surface, Revealing iPad mini-Like Design

iPad rumors are slowly ramping up (1, 2, 3, 4), and this unverified photo provides the first hardware leak we’ve seen so far for Apple’s next-gen iPad. The leaked back plate images, posted  by 9to5Mac, reveal-an iPad mini-like design for the next-gen iPad, which chides will with previous reports

 9to5Mac:

While we cannot confirm that the above image is legitimate, it does provide a solid representation of what Apple’s next iPad will likely look like. We were told this is a prototype back piece for the fifth-generation iPad with a 9.7-inch display. We were also told that the casing is almost as thin as the iPad mini’s back.

So not verified, but very plausible. Adding to that theory is Ming-Chi Kuo’s prediction that it would taken on a similar look to its younger brother. The Korean analyst has a pretty amazing track record, and has been proved accurate numerous times in the past.

To get an idea of what a complete product might look like with the (smaller) above casing, some MacRumors forums users overlaid the current generation and also the 9.7 inch screen to see the difference in bezel width (1,2). It seems like there’s a noticeable difference, but we’ll only know for sure when it’s announced.
