iOS Hackers Make Significant Progress on iOS 6 Jailbreak

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything significant about the iOS 6 jailbreak effort, but a recent post from well-known iOS hacker planetbeing (@planetbeing) has revived hopes for an untethered jailbreak. According to the tweet, planetbeing and pod2g (@pod2g) are apparently working together on releasing a public jailbreak for iOS 6. Pod2g later followed up with a tweet confirming the news.

Pod2G has been less active in the past few months, working on his new iOS app PodDJ. Now that the app has been released, the hacker says he’ll be focusing more energy once again on the jailbreak scene. Earlier this month, planetbeing stated that he already had a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.0.2, but that he would not release it until additional exploits were discovered to act as a failsafe for future jailbreaks.

The two hackers are both very well known for their work on previous jailbreaks. With any luck, these two hackers putting their heads together should get us a public jailbreak for iOS 6 in the near future. At last! Apple has really doubled up their efforts to make iOS 6 more secure. It’s good to see that a jailbreak will still be possible!

We’ll keep you informed of additional news as we hear it.
