TechCrunch: Looks Like There’s No Deal in Sight for Apple to Acquire Waze

Yesterday we ran a story referencing TechCrunch as reporting that Apple was interested in purchasing Waze, the crowd-sourced traffic information and navigation service. Now TechCrunch says there is no deal in sight.

MacRumors:

According to the report, Apple was offering approximately $400 million plus an additional $100 million in incentives, but Waze was holding out for closer to $750 million.

TechCrunch’s MG Siegler now reports that there is no deal in sight.

Siegler says : “And while Mike Butcher also claimed multiple sources in his original post, you’ll note that he was quick to qualify the information as a “rumor” (or in British parlance — Mike is English — a “rumour”). Because that’s exactly what it was. This isn’t a rumor (of a non-deal). There is no deal is happening. At least not now or anytime soon.”

Siegler goes on to say that while Apple and Waze have most-likely had low-level talks, possibly about a closer partnership, they are so far nothing more than the typical back-and-forth seen between two partner companies.

From the retweets and comments we’ve seen out on Twitter, we can tell this will thrill some, and disappoint others. As with any rumor, it’s bound to pop up again, so we’ll keep our eyes and ears open.

For those of you wondering what all the fuss is about, check out Waze, it’s available FREE in the App Store. (DIRECT LINK)
