How to Export Your RSS Feeds From Google Reader

Google surprised us all by announcing that they will discontinue Google Reader on July 1st – an announcement that sent shockwaves throughout the internet. That means you only have three months or so to find a suitable replacement. In the meantime, it might be worth taking the time to export your feeds from Google Reader, so you can import them into other services you might want to try.

To export your Google Reader feeds, you’ll need to log in to the Google Takeout service with your Google account. Once you’re logged in, you’ll see three tabs next to the Google Takout label. Click the “Choose services” tab. On the next screen, select Google Reader, and click the “Create archive” button. This will only take a few seconds. Once Google has prepared your archive, just hit the download button, and you’ll be able to save a zip file containing an XML archive of your Google Reader feeds.

Later, when you find another service that interests you, you’ll be able to simply upload that XML file and quickly import all of your Google Reader data. Simple!
