AgileBits Has a Big Revamp of 1Password for Mac Coming This Fall

AgileBit’s 1Password for Mac app is about to go a BIG revamp, as the company recently teased a sneak peek at a completely re-engineered and redesigned app that will be the first major update to the password manager on the Mac since 2009.

Macworld:

While Apple’s announcement of the forthcoming iCloud Keychain feature of iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks might have seemed like dire news for products like AgileBits’s 1Password, the latter company’s not about to throw in the towel.

It’s no secret that we love 1Password here at MacTrast, and I for one use it on both the Mac and my iOS devices religiously. (As in, “Oh GOD! What was that login password again?”)

1Password 4 for Mac will be borrowing some of the features that originated in 1Password 4 for iOS. These include the ability to mark your frequently used items as favorites, multiple login support for a single site, and the ability to sync via iCloud.

The revamped app will also include new types of items you can store, such as drivers licenses and reward programs, all with the ability to have custom fields. One particularly nice feature, you can share items between the Mac and iOS apps via encrypted iMessage or email.

The app will also include a revamped browser extension that AgileBits claims will appear identical in any browser.

1Password 4 for Mac will also help you examine your own security habits, with sorting by duplicate passwords, your password’s strength, and even the last time it was changed. That should give a bit of an edge in keeping your identity safe.

AgileBits says there is even more to come, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for any new features as they are announced.

If you have purchased an earlier version of 1Password for Mac via the Mac App Store, you’ll get 1Password 4 as a free upgrade. Anyone who bought the app through AgileBit’s website on or after January 1, 2013 will also get a free upgrade. The company hasn’t as yet announced upgrade pricing for other customers, or what the full price will be for new customers.
