And So it Begins: The First iPhone Campers Arrive at the Fifth Avenue Apple Store

It’s exactly two weeks before Apple is expected to release the next-generation iPhone to an adoring public, and eager throngs have already begun lining up at Apple’s flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City. OK, it’s only a few fanboys and publicity hounds right now, but it’s a start…

The tag team from SellYourMac arrived this morning, but as seen in the picture above, they were actually beat by two others who arrived yesterday. The camp-out times are getting longer and longer for some of the more prominent stores…

I’m not much of a camper myself, staying at the Holiday Inn instead of the Hilton is my idea of roughing it, so I guess I’ll just follow the “Sell Your Mac” team on Twitter and live vicariously through them.

Be sure to stay tuned to MacTrast on September 10th for all the latest from Apple’s iPhone event as it happens!

This kind of thing is fun the first couple of times. After that it gets rather tedious, so I’ve just developed my own network of moles and suppliers to get product if need be on launch day. Though I don’t think this release cycle will see much activity where I’m at since the whole company is reorganizing right now.

I find it easier to place a pre order with Vodafone and get the device on the day on the day, without having to queue for 2 weeks. Whatever floats peoples boats though…..however if I were to stay in New York for 2 weeks I’m sure theres better things to do.

Sneakerheads and gadget heads are not so different.

The 5th Ave store is just an App Store? Why are they waiting in line here? Goto a Retail store.
