AllThingsD: Apple to Hold iPad Media Event on October 22 (Update: Confirmed!)

While we’ve had no shortage of rumors about Apple’s upcoming 5th-gen iPad and 2nd-gen iPad mini, it appears that official confirmation may soon be at hand. According to AllThingsD, Apple has scheduled a media event for October 22nd to announce the new hardware!

AllThingsD reports:

Apple has a couple more new products to announce before the year is out, and it plans to unveil them in a few weeks time.

People familiar with Apple’s plans tell AllThingsD that the company will hold its next invitation-only event on Tuesday October 22. The focal point of the gathering will be the latest updates to the company’s iPad line, but the new Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks will likely get some stage time as well, I’m told.

Apple is expected to introduce the fifth-generation iPad, and perhaps a Retina display iPad mini at the event. While this isn’t quite a confirmation, AllThingsD has proven to be a very reliable source in the past. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more!

Update: Noted Apple journalist Jim Dalrymple has given his official “Yup” to the report, making it now practically confirmed (to my knowledge, Dalrymple has never actually been wrong about any of his confirmations). Are you ready?!

UPDATE 2: AllThingsD has now confirmed the event definitely, and was the first to report that Apple is now officially sending out media invites to the event.
