iOS Devices Accounted for Over 83% of Mobile Holiday Shopping

Apple’s iOS devices grabbed the lion’s share of online shopping and sales during Christmas shopping season 2013, grabbing over 83% of mobile-based sales during the season.

AppleInsider:

Despite having minority market share in the U.S., Apple’s iOS is being used to do the most mobile shopping and placing the most sales by a wide margin, according to IBM’s Digital Analytics Benchmark Hub.

The group has tracked similar numbers since the holiday shopping season kicked off during Black Friday after Thanksgiving.

IBM says mobile devices accounted for 48% of all online shopping traffic, a 28.3% year-over-year increase. Mobile sales accounted for 29% and increase of over 40%.

Broken down by mobile platform, iOS devices accounted for more than 5x the total sales from Android devices, accounting for over 83% of mobile-oriented sales. iOS accounted for 23% of all online sales, vs. 4.6% on Android devices.

IBM says that iOS users also spent twice as much per order than their Android counterparts, with an average sale of $93.94 versus an average order of $48.10 on Android devices.
