CES 2014: LaCie Announces ‘Fuel’ The 1TB Wireless Hard Drive for The Mac and iOS Devices

LaCie has announced the Fuel, a wireless 1TB wireless hard drive that is designed to work with your Mac and iOS devices to allow streaming of media content from the Fuel to your devices.

From the Fuel’s product page:

Never again worry about what to sync to your iPad. With 1TB of wireless storage, the LaCie Fuel lets you store 500+ movies or thousands of photos, songs, and documents, and access them on your iPad, iPhone®, or Mac®. With up to a 10–hour battery life*, the LaCie Fuel lets you enjoy your media all day, without needing Internet or cables.

The Fuel functions as a Wi-Fi hotspot, to allow streaming of HD content out to as many as three devices at once. While accessing of the media files is done via the Seagate Media app, AirPlay functionality is also available.

Files can be moved wirelessly from your Mac or iOS device to the LaCie Fuel via the Seagate Media app. The drive shows up on your Mac’s desktop just like a regular external hard drive would, so you can simply drag-and-drop files to the Fuel. The Fuel can also connect directly to your Mac via a USB 3.0 cable.

Files can also be automatically added to the Fuel via DropBox. Any file that is added, edited, or deleted in your DropBox folder will automatically reflect the change in the Fuel’s DropBox folder as long as you’re in Wi-Fi range.

LaCie’s website says the Fuel will be available soon and will be priced at $199.99.
