None of the involved parties responded to The Wrap’s request for comment.

Fincher has met with Sony’s Amy Pascal to discuss the possibility of directing the film, and expressed his preference for Bale in the lead role, saying the he’d only direct the project if Bale plays Jobs.

While Fincher and Pascal have clashed in the past, while making “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” Pascal has great faith in Fincher as a filmmaker, and would like to keep him happy. Pascal is reported to have a good relationship with Bale, having worked together on “American Hustle,” which earned Bale an Oscar nomination.

While Bale has not been approached to play the late co-founder of Apple, he has been considered a prime contender for the role since the project was first announced. Bale is known for going to great lengths to play his roles as authentically as possible, losing a dangerous amount of weight for his role in “The Machinist.”

Sorkin, Oscar winning writer of Fincher’s Facebook drama “The Social Network,” based his script on Walter Isaacson’s best-selling authorized biography of Jobs.
