We told you this morning that Apple had announced that it would begin officially rolling out it “CarPlay’ iPhone integration. Volvo, one of the platform’s launch partners, has published its own press release concerning the launch, and its promo materials includes a brief video showing off CarPlay in a Volvo.
Volvo also goes a step beyond the basic CarPlay implementation to take advantage of the large portrait touch screen on the upcoming XC90 SUV, making both Apple and Volvo controls available simultaneously.
“iPhone users will feel completely at home in a new Volvo. We have created a wholly-integrated user experience in our large portrait-oriented touch screen that takes the in-car mobile device experience to a new level. That, coupled with the obvious driver safety benefits of an advanced voice control system like Siri, made Apple a perfect match for Volvo,” says Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO, Volvo Car Group.
The Volvo press release also notes that although the initial implementation of CarPlay will require connecting via the iPhone’s Lightning connector, there will be a Wi-Fi connectivity option in the near future.
