Analysts Predict Slight Drop in iPad Sales for Apple’s Fiscal Q2 2014, iPhone to See Slight Bump in Sales

Fortune has released analysts predictions for Apple’s fiscal second quarter of 2014, and the analysts predict that the iPad may see a light drop in sales, while the iPhone will see a slight sales bump. These numbers come by way of Philip Elmer-DeWitt of Fortune’s Apple 2.0 blog.

Fortune, via MacRumors:

The consensus estimate, at 19.3 million, would represent a 0.7% decline, with the pros slightly more optimistic (at 19.4 million) than the amateurs (19.2 million). Dragging down the amateur numbers is the 15 million estimate submitted by the Braeburn Group’s Matt Lew. Tugging in the other direction is Horace Dediu’s 21.8 million. One represents a year-over-year decline of 23%, the other an increase of 12%.

The estimates come from 21 Wall Street professionals, and 13 amateur analysts. The iPad sales estimates predict a 0.7% decline in Q2 2104, compared to Q2 2013, which saw a 55% year-over-year jump.

As for the high/low estimates, Asymco’s Horace Dediu expects sales of 21.8 million units, while Matt Lew of the Braeburn Group estimates sales of just 15 million units.

As for the iPhone, Fortune polled 32 Apple analysts – 20 Wall Street professionals and 12 amateurs. Estimates ranged from a high of 42.5 million iPhones, from Needham’s Charlie Wolf, to a low of 34.05 million from a pro who asked to remain anonymous.

The average of all the estimates is 38.2 million, which would represent a 2% increase year over year. As usual, the amateurs are more bullish, with an average estimate of 38.8 million. But the pros are only 1 million behind them at 37.8 million.
