Bug Stops Some iOS Streaming Video Apps From Playing Video

The BBC reports that some video apps on the iOS platform have stopped streaming content to users today. Videos refuse to stream, instead serving up error messages such as: “You have insufficient bandwidth to play this program.”

9to5Mac:

The cause of the issue is still unclear, but the bug is affecting multiple high-profile apps in the UK such as BBC iPlayer and Sky Go. Whether the issue is more widespread is not yet known.

It’s been found that setting the date on your iOS device to an earlier date will allow the video streaming to once more work, and this suggests the problem could lie with expired digital certificates.

Apple’s HTTP Live Streaming technology uses SSL for encrypted connections. That technology is used by many video apps to stream content on iOS.

The BBC says video downloads are unaffected.
