While some folks are more than able to limit their posts to Twitter in 140 characters or under, some users just can’t bring their tweets in under the limit. Enter BigTweets.
BigTweets is an app that does one thing and one thing only, allows you to post tweets of more than 140 characters directly to Twitter. It does this by turning your long tweet into a graphic file which is then posted to Twitter. The app also allows you to post regular lengths tweet, with or without a graphic.
The layout of BigTweets is simple and easy to use. The interface is a bit clunky and could use a makeover, but it does perform its intended function quite efficiently.
I used the app to post both normal length and overly long posts, and in both cases, the posts were quickly and easily posted to Twitter. I did miss having a character counter so I could tell if I needed to post a longer tweet via the graphic file capability of the app. A future update to add a character counter would be most welcome.
BigTweets allows you to change the style, size and color of the font used to create the graphic for your longer tweets. This does allow some style to be added to you tweets, however it does tend to make your posts a little odd looking occasionally.
While I don’t see using an app such as BigTweets every day, some users who are more verbose than myself might find the app to be of use. Even at $0.99 for the app, the value for the price could be improved, perhaps with the character counter, or even an option to post longer tweets by splitting them up into multiple tweets in addition to the graphic option.
All in all, if you find yourself needing to limit your self expression on Twitter, you might want to take a look at BigTweets, as it adds a unique option for posting long messages to Twitter.
