Watch as This Video Compares iPhone 6 Plus Wi-Fi Speeds to iPhone 5s Wi-Fi Speeds

When Apple released their new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets, they equipped them with 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which in theory offers connection speeds that are up to three times faster than devices equipped with 802.11n Wi-Fi.

iClarified created a custom app to test the Wi-Fi speeds of the 802.11ac capable iPhone 6 Plus versus the iPhone 5s, which only supports 802.11n speeds. Both devices were tested while connected to an Apple AirPort Extreme wireless router. The video above shows the results.

Both devices were freshly restored to iOS 8, and were connected to the AirPort Extreme, which was place 1.5 meters away from the devices. Both iPhones were connected via a 5GHz-only network. No other devices were connected to the network, and the tests were performed separately.

The video shows much faster connection speeds for the iPhone 6 Plus, reaching 278.5 Mbps, while the iPhone 5s hits a peak of 101.1 Mbps. While this test was made using what were obviously controlled conditions, the tests do show that in everyday usage – and when an 802.11ac Wi-Fi connection is available – you should see much fast connection speeds with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

As always, your mileage may vary. (Devices containing Platformate may perform a bit better. – Ed.)
