Staples Office Supply Chain Now Accepting Apple Pay In Stores

A report today says office supplies superstore chain Staples has begun accepting payment via Apple’s Apple Pay mobile payments system in its U.S. stores. A source shared the information with MacRumors earlier today.

Staples now offers its customers access to Apple Pay, a new service that will transform mobile payments with an easy, secure and private way to pay. In Staples over 1,400 stores in the United States, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch, upon availability.

Staples was listed early on as a retail partner for Apple Pay, shown as one of the retailers that would be implementing the payments service “later this year.”

Staples’ iOS app has included Apple Pay as an option ever since the service’s launch on October 20. At that time, Staples said in-store availability would be available “within a few weeks.”

Apple Pay now has 34 retail partners, including Macy’s, Disney, Foot Locker, Walgreens, Toys R Us, and more. Apple Pay is also accepted at stores that have NFC-enabled contactless payments terminals.

While not much information has been leaked as to the popularity of Apple Pay during its first month, A Whole Foods executive told The Wall Street Journal that the company had processed 150,000 Apple Pay transactions during the first 17 days they offered Apple Pay transactions. That amount comes to around 1% of all of the food store’s transactions for that period.
