Many users were disappointed to find the third-generation iPad mini was identical to the third-generation model, with merely an added Touch ID sensor. Recently there have been rumors floated that Apple would do a mid-cycle upgrade of the iPad mini, with design elements inspired by its bigger brother.

The photos and video display a shell with a redesigned speaker grille much like the iPad Air 2. The new shell also indicated the iPad mini 4 may be thinner than the third-generation model.
