Poll: Nearly All Apple Watch Try-On Sessions Result in Pre-Orders

An informal poll reveals that nearly all customers who schedule an Apple Watch try-on appointment walk away with a pre-order for the new wearable.

AppleInsider:

Timothy Arcuri of Cowen and Company visited Apple retail stores in the San Francisco Bay Area over the weekend, and spoke with employees about the try-on appointments that began last Friday.

Apple employees told Arcuri that nearly all customers who came in for a try-on session with the Apple Watch pre-ordered the device. Arcuri’s team spoke to several dozen salespeople in Apple Stores in the Bay Area, and reported that between 85 and 90 percent of appointment holders wound up pre-ordering the Watch.

Arcuri estimates that opening weekend pre-orders for the Apple Watch could easily be in the one million unit range. He says the number is a little better than he had expected.

Another study from Slice Intelligence also indicates nearly one million Watch pre-orders were placed in the first 24 hours of availability. That number was based on a poll of 9,900 online shoppers.

Arcuri estimates Apple will sell around 3 million Apple Watch units in the June quarter, increasing to 7 million for the September quarter. Long term, Arcuri sees 31 million units going out the door.
