Review: MOS Spring 3-foot Lightning Cable – Indestructible?

I don’t know about you, but I put my Lightning charging cables for my iPhone through hell. In and out of backpacks, catching them in car doors, running over them with my office chair… The list goes on. Now comes the MOS Spring Lightning Cable, which claims to be indestructible. Is it? Pretty damn near…

Overview

The MOS Spring Lightning Cable comes from accessory maker MOS. Based in Utah, MOS makes a number of accessories for computer and mobile device users. MOS advertises the MOS Spring as “indestructible,” claiming it is the last cable you’ll ever need to buy. To back up that bold claim, MOS offers a lifetime warranty on every Spring Lightning cable it sells.

The MOS Spring Lightning Cable is equipped with durable aluminum cable heads on both ends, with spring strain reliefs where the cable enters the aluminum jacketing to prevent cable straining which can cause stock Lightning cables to crack at the connection.

The cable itself is jacketed in a rugged “Exoskeleton woven jacket” that keeps the cable flexible, while protecting it from hazards such as being shut in a car door, or running it over with the wheel of an office chair. (Both happened during my testing.)

I used the MOS Spring for three weeks, and I can report the cable has proven as durable as MOS claims it to be. I have shut my car door on the Spring, rolled over it with my office chair, and rescued it from the office cat who particularly likes to victimize cables that are left unattended. In all cases, there is not a crack, a scar, or any fringing showing on the Spring. It has stood up to all the punishment I have thrown at it, and it has kept on syncing.

The MOS Spring looks just as good as the day I took it out of the package. As well as being tough, the Spring is attractive and stylish, if you’re into that sort of thing. The design and construction of the Spring adds a great look to any setup.

While the 3-foot MOS Spring that I tried out is priced a bit higher than Apple’s replacements, as well as offerings from other third-party manufacturers, the few extra bucks will give you the peace of mind that the cable will stand up to punishing use, and if it does fail, you can get a replacement for free.

Verdict

The MOS Spring Lightning Cable stood up to any punishment I threw at it, and was ready for more. The construction of the Spring is top-notch, and while seemingly indestructible, it also looks good while standing up to the punishment.

I would highly recommend the MOS Spring Lightning Cable to anyone who is looking for a tough cable to perform their day-t0-day charging needs. The Spring will likely stand up to anything its subjected to, short of a pair of wire cutters.
