Apple’s Eddy Cue: ‘We Are Working to Have Home Sharing in iOS 9″

Following complaints about Apple’s disabling of Home Sharing of music in iOS 8.4, the company’s SVP of internet Software and Services Eddy Cue said on Monday that the company is working to bring it back in iOS 9.

AppleInsider:

In response to a question regarding the Home Sharing situation on iOS 8.4, Cue tweeted out, “We are working to have Home Sharing in iOS 9,” suggesting the feature will be at least partially reinstated with Apple’s next-generation mobile operating system.

Apple quietly removed Home Sharing of music in the iOS 8.4 update released last week. The discovery of the removal, taking place in the same update that enabled Apple’s new Music service, led to much consternation among iOS users. The company has yet to officially comment on the removal.

Home Sharing allows mobile device users to stream musical content from a central computer to mobile devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network. While streaming of music content is disabled, video sharing is still available in the new iOS version.

iOS 8.4’s beta release notes has stated that Home Sharing of music was “not currently available,” leading to hopes that the feature would make a return in later iOS updates. Cue’s tweets on Monday indicate that Apple is indeed working to bring it back.
