Some Users Reporting Issues With Touch ID Under iOS 9.1

An increasing number of iPhone users are reporting issues with Touch ID under iOS 9.1. The users say Touch ID is proving to be slow to unlock, or won’t unlock their device at all.

Forbes:

The complaints are similar: users running iOS 9.1 find Touch ID either refuses to recognize a user’s fingerprint, has become highly unreliable or doesn’t even register a fingerprint pressed against it. Users have tried hard resets (holding in the power and home button for 10 seconds) and complete factory resets without any success.

While so far the issue is affecting only a small number of users, the number is growing.

Another Touch ID-related issue, and one that I myself have experienced a number of times since updating my iPhone to iOS 9.1, is one of users being unable to unlock their iPhone with Touch ID, and instead are being required to enter their passcode. The unlock screen includes a message informing users that a passcode is required when the device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours. I’ve usually received these messages in the morning, a mere 8 hours or so later after its last use.

I experienced this when using the iOS 9.0 beta, but hadn’t seen it after updating to the iOS 9 release version. Now, after updating to iOS 9.1, I’m seeing it again. An old Apple Support Communities thread where users had experienced similar issues has been reinvigorated with reports of the latest issue.
