Netflix App Finally Adds Picture-in-Picture Mode Support for iPad

The much-requested picture-in-picture support for the iPad has finally been added to the Netflix iOS app. The option allows viewers to begin playback inside the app, press the Home Button, and continue watching in a thumbnail view while using another app. Picture-in-picture require at least an iPad Air or iPad mini 2, running iOS 9.

While Netflix has usually been quick to support new iOS technologies, such as 3D Touch, it held back offering picture-in-picture following the debut of the new feature as part of iOS 9 in September of 2015. The app still does not support the multitasking Split View, although it does support the Slide Over feature.

In addition to the new picture-in-picture support, the newly updated app also offers the ever-popular stability improvements and “bug fixes throughout.” The app is available free, in the App Store.
