Walgreens Now Offers Digital Coupon Redemption via Apple Pay

Walgreens has offered Apple Pay support from day one, and was also one of the first retailers to allow loyalty card members to use them via Apple’s contactless payments service. Now comes another first for Walgreens, as the drugstore chain is now offering support for digital coupons which can be redeemed via Apple Pay.

9to5Mac:

Walgreens is rolling out digital coupon clipping through more channels which connects promotions to your Balance Rewards loyalty card. Digital coupons can now be found at walgreens.com/coupons or within search results or through the Walgreens iOS app.

After “clipping” the digital coupons, customers can then redeem them by simply using their iPhone or Apple Watch as normal at the Walgreens checkout counter.

“We were one of the first retailers to take an innovative and simplified approach in developing the customer experience for digital coupons,” said Abhi Dhar, Walgreens senior vice president and chief information officer. “These latest enhancements, in addition to integrating our loyalty program with Apple Pay and Android Pay, have made it even easier for the millions of people who use our online and mobile channels every day to save even more at Walgreens.”

We look forward to the day that other retailers start taking note of how Walgreens uses Apple Pay to make shopping more convenient for their customers. We’re talking to you Walmart, and Target, and Krogers, and Publix, and…
