Apple to Add iPhone 4, Late-2010 MacBook Air, Other Products to Obsolete List October 31

Japanese tech site Mac Otakara report Apple will add all iPhone 4 models, the late-2010 13-inch MacBook Pro, the third-generation Airport Extreme, and mid-2009 AirPort Time Capsule to its vintage and obsolete products list on October 31.

Being added to the list doesn’t mean these products won’t work any longer, it just means that you’re on your own when it comes to hardware issues and repairs.  For a full list of vintage and obsolete Apple products, visit the Apple website.

Vintage products are those Apple Products that have not been manufactured for more than 5 and less than 7 years ago. The company discontinues hardware service for vintage products, with a few exceptions for products purchased in Turkey and California.

Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. Monster-branded Beats products are considered obsolete regardless of when they were purchased.  The cupertino firm has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions.

Mac Otakara’s report specifically mentions the additions to Apple’s vintage and obsolete products list in Japan. However, the products will also likely be added to lists for the United States, Australia, Canada, and the rest of the Asia-Pacific and Europe.

The current MacBook Air has not been updated in 584 days, which begs the question: Will the current MacBook Air be added to the vintage and obsolete list before it receives an update? Stay tuned.
