Verizon Launches Their $50 per Month 5G Home Internet Service in Four Cities

Verizon launched their 5G home broadband service today in sections of Indianapolis, Houston, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. A resident of Houston, Clayton Harris, become the carrier’s first 5G customer in the world.

The carrier had begun accepting pre-orders for the 5G home service back on September 13. Customers who signed up back then should now get access to the 5G connections.

“The world’s first commercial 5G service is here,” said Ronan Dunne, President, Verizon Wireless. “We’ve formed incredible partnerships with many of the world’s leading technology companies, the international technical standards bodies, public officials, developers and our own customers to drive the 5G ecosystem forward, faster than most had predicted. And now, actual customers. It’s been an incredible journey…and we’re just at the starting line.”

Early adopters of the new 5G Home service will get it free for the first three months (after that introductory period, Verizon Wireless customers with a qualifying smartphone plan will pay $50 per month for the service, while non-Verizon Wireless customers will pay $70 per month), free white glove installation and equipment, and early access to new services, including 5G mobility. 5G Home customers will also get YouTube TV free for the first three months and a free Apple TV 4K or Google Chromecast Ultra device at installation.

The new service is based on Verizon’s Ultra Wideband 5G network, the first commercial 5G service to launch inside U.S. borders.

The initial rollout is taking place in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento. However, Verizon plans to rapidly expand its coverage area. Interested parties can visit the 5G Home website for more information, and to sign up for updates on when the service will be available in their area.
