One feature that’s missing from Apple’s new iPhone XR handset is a pressure-sensitive display, meaning it doesn’t offer 3D Touch. In its place, Apple is offering “Haptic Touch” which combines a long-press on the display with haptic feedback.
This combines a normal long-press gesture with haptic feedback, like holding down the spacebar to activate keyboard trackpad mode, or using long press for the lock screen torch button.
One feature that’s missing on the iPhone XR that is available on other iPhone models is the ability to view rich notifications using 3D Touch. Luckily for iPhone XR users, iOS 12.1.1 beta 2 provides a method of accomplishing this.
The iOS 12.1.1 beta substitutes a long press on the XR for the 3D Touch increased force method on other iPhone devices. A long press on a notification banner allows viewing of more info.
Currently, iOS 12 offers a rather clunky method of performing the same method, by sliding on the notification with your finger then tapping the “View” button when it appears. The method works across all iOS devices.
iOS 12.1.1 is currently in beta testing by developers and public beta users. Apple has not announced when the new version will be released, but it should be available within the next few weeks.
