2019 LG TV Support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit to Arrive in Mid-2019

LG has announced their 2019 television lineup will add support for AirPlay 2 and HomeKit will arrive in the middle of 2019.

Featuring a wider range of screen sizes up to 86 inches, this year’s OLED and NanoCell LCD TVs from LG will offer upgraded AI picture and sound quality thanks to the company’s advanced second generation α (Alpha) 9 Gen 2 intelligent processor and deep learning technology. New LG TVs will receive an upgrade mid-year to support Apple AirPlay 2 and Apple HomeKit for easy streaming of video and audio content and connectivity to Apple’s smart home products. 2019 LG TV owners can also expect to receive a firmware update that will add Amazon Alexa support to complement Google Assistant which is included out of the box, making LG the only TV brand to provide support for both leading AI platforms without the need for additional hardware.

The “mid-year” update will add AirPlay2 which will allow streaming of audio and video content to LG TV from iOS devices. HomeKit support will allow users to use iOS Control Center to turn the TVs on and off, change inputs, and more.

2019 LG TVs will also be receiving a firmware update that will add support for Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant, in addition to the already featured Google Assistant support.

LG announced during CES 2019 that their 2019 televisions would offer support for AirPlay 2. Samsung, Sony, and Vizio also announced support for their lineups, some support will even be added to previous years’ models.

As we previously reported, a full list of HomeKit and AirPlay 2 compatible TV models are available on the Apple website.
