Apple updates iMac With New 6-Core and 8-Core Intel CPUs, Adds Radeon Pro Vega Graphics Options

Apple has finally updated their iMac lineup after a nearly two year update drought. The new models feature Intel’s latest 8th-generation and 9th-generation Core processors, and Radeon Pro Vega graphics options are available across the new lineup.

Radeon Pro Vega graphics come to the 21.5-inch iMac, delivering up to 80 percent faster graphics performance. The 27-inch iMac with Radeon Pro Vega now delivers up to 50 percent faster graphics performance, ideal for pros with graphics-intensive workloads, such as developing 3D content, editing videos with complex effects or designing high-resolution games.

The new iMac lineup have been updated with Intel’s latest 8th-generation and 9th-generation Core processors, these include up to a 3.2GHz six-core 8th-gen Core i7 with Turbo Boost up to 4.6GHz for the 21.5-inch 4K iMac, while the 27-inch 5K iMac offers up to a 3.6GHz eight-core 9th-gen Core i9 with Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz.

The new lineup offers faster 2,666MHz DDR4 memory. The base model 21.5-inch 4K iMac has new 32GB memory and 1TB SSD options.

Radeon Pro Vega graphics options include the Vega 20 for 21.5-inch models and Vega 48 for 27-inch models. Apple says the new option offers up to 80% faster graphics performance compared to the previous lineup.

While the internals may be changed, the outer design of the new desktops remains the same design that’s been used since 2012, along with the same 4K and 5K displays as the previous generation. The new Macs offer two Thunderbolt 3 ports, four USB 3 ports, a SD card slot, a headphone jack, and gigabit Ethernet.
