Apple Reportedly Planning Three OLED iPhones for 2020 – Displays Ranging from 5.42-inches to 6.67-inches

Apple’s 2020 iPhone lineup will feature a trio of OLED display iPhones, ranging from a smaller sized iPhone up to a larger-sized model, says a report from DigiTimes.

The publication’s sources indicate that the 2019 iPhone lineup – which should debut this September – will offer screen sizes and display technology matching the 2018 lineup, which measures in at 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED screens, and a 6.1-inch LCD model.

DigiTimes says their supply chain sources tell them the 2020 iPhone lineup will boast 5.42-, 6.06- and 6.67-inch OLED displays.

One interesting morsel from the report is that the smallest 2020 iPhone will sport a thiner display than on previous handsets, thanks to Samsung Display’s Y-Octa or LG Display’s TOE touch technology The technology is also said to slim down the display’s cost.

DigiTimes notes that “Y-Octa is an advanced flexible AMOLED display technology that removes the film substrate and allows the touch circuit to be directly patterned on the film’s encapsulation layer, making the display thinner, indicated the sources.”

The publication’s sources indicate Samsung will remain the main OLED panel supplier for Apple next year, with the possibility of LG or BOE Technology gaining some of the OLED panel orders from Apple.

Those supply chain sources estimate Apple will 80 and 82 million iPhones in the first half of this year and around 180-190 million units for the entire 2019 period.

Reports like these should be filed in your mental database under “rumors” and taken with a grain of your favorite low sodium seasoning.
