Foxconn to Begin Assembling iPhone X in India, Starting in July

Foxconn will begin assembling the iPhone X in India, starting in July, says a report by The Economic Times. Manufacturing of the iPhone X will be completed in India for the local market in order to save on import fees.

The new production will join the assembly of iPhone SE, iPhone 6S, and iPhone 7 models for domestic sales. The report’s sources claim Foxconn will begin with the iPhone X from the Chennai plant.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the facility would be used for iPhone X production. The plant has received an investment of around $300 million, and would be used for a trial manufacturing run.

The iPhone X will be the latest device to be made in India for the local market, but it certainly won’t be the last. An anonymous official claims “the plans are to step up production capacity and diversify to even higher models going forward.”
