Report: iPhone XR Successor to Have a Nearly 6% Larger Battery

The iPhone XR already has the longest battery life of any iPhone ever made, and a new report indicates the 2019 successor to the XR will feature an even larger battery capacity.

Korean website The Elec claims the iPhone XR will have a a 3,110 mAh battery, which would be approximately 5.7% larger than the 2,942 mAh battery in the current model:

“China’s ATL (Ameperx Technology Limited) has kicked off mass production of batteries for the successor to Apple’s iPhone XR forecast to be unveiled later this year, according to those close to the matter on June 9. Battery packaging will be done by another Chinese firm, Huapu Technology.”

That means the iPhone XR’s successor will have slightly less capacity than the iPhone XS Max’s 3,174 mAh battery, but the XR consumes less power. (The iPhone XS Max replacement will also likely get a larger power plant.)

Well-connected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted the next generation iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR would see their battery capacities increase by 20 to 25%, 10 to 15%, and up to 5% respectively. The larger batteries are expected to allow for the new iPhones’ rumored two-way wireless charging features.

As is normal for reports like this, they are to be taken with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning. We won’t know for sure what the product specs will look like for the new iPhones until they are officially unveiled in September. So, stay tuned.
