HomeKit and AirPlay 2 Support Now Available for LG UHD UM7X TVs

LG has made a firmware update available for TV models in the UHD UM7X series, enabling HomeKit and AirPlay 2 functionality. The firmware was expected to be released in October, but rolled out early.

The new 04.70.03 software update allows LG UHD UM7X TV owners to update their sets to support the new functionality. HomeKit and AirPlay 2 support initially began rolling out to LG sets in July.

After the update is in place, users will be able to beam content – including video, music, and photos – via AirPlay 2 from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their LG TV, just like it already does when using an Apple TV.

The update’s HomeKit support will allow users to control their television using Siri voice commands or via the Home app on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Siri commands will allow users to play specific shows or movies via AirPlay to the LG smart set.

LG isn’t quite finished adding AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to its TVs, as it still plans to roll out support to its LG UHD UM6X series television sets as well as the LG NanoCell SM83 series or below, we’ll let you know when those updates are available.
