iPhone 11 Lineup Supports Faster Wi-Fi 6, Launching Today

The Wi-Fi Alliance today announced the release of the Wi-Fi 6 certification program. The certification assures compatible devices that carry the Wi-Fi 6 Certified logo will meet the “highest standards for security and interoperability.”

Apple’s new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max handsets all support Wi-Fi 6, meaning the devices will soon likely be certified under the program.

The new standard, also known as 802.11ax, offers “nearly four times the capacity of Wi-Fi 5, and is an evolutionary advancement for Wi-Fi’s ability to deliver high-performance infrastructure and optimized connectivity to all devices on a network simultaneously – bringing noticeable improvements in densely connected Wi-Fi environments.”

Wi-Fi 6 delivers faster speeds, along with greater network capacity, improved power efficiency, and connectivity improvements in area with several Wi-Fi devices. Compatible devices also are required to support WPA3, which is the latest version of the Wi-Fi security protocol, offering improved encryption strength.
