16-inch MacBook Pro to Replace 15-inch Model – Will ‘Cost About the Same’

A new report by Bloomberg says Apple’s upcoming 16-inch MacBook Pro will replace the 15-inch MacBook Pro and will “cost about the same” as the current 15-model, which starts at $2,399.

The new 16-inch MacBook Pro will be the largest laptop Apple has sold since it discontinued the 17-inch MacBook Pro.

While previous reports had indicated the new 16-inch model would be sold alongside the 15-inch MacBook Pro as a higher-end option, it sounds like the price won’t be higher after all.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is expected to feature slimmer bezels around the display, allowing for a larger screen in a similar form factor to the 15-inch MBPro model. The new MacBook Pro is also expected to boast a more reliable scissor switch keyboard, a standalone Touch ID sensor, and possibly a physical Esc key.

Bloomberg suggests that in addition to being larger, the display will also be brighter, likely appealing to video and photo editors, gamers, and software developers.

The Bloomberg report also suggest the new MacBook Pro could debut as soon as Wednesday. It expects the new Mac Pro to hit shelves sometime in December.

Apple has a dedicated location in New York City where the company occasionally holds private briefings with members of the press to reveal products and give them hands-on time with the products.

That is said to be happening this week, as Apple is holding private press meetings at the start of this week, suggesting that we could see a public announcement later this week.
