Apple begins Production of New Mac Pro – To Soon Ship ‘Across the Americas’

In addition to announcing they have broken ground on a new $1 billion campus in Austin, Texas, Apple has also announced that production has begun on the new Mac Pro in an Apple production facility in the same city. The new Mac Pro will launch in December.

Apple says the new high-powered machines will soon ship to customers “across the Americas,” suggesting that the new Mac Pro units being assembled in Austin will only be shipped out to customers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and other countries in North and South America.

This indicates that Mac Pro orders from outside of the Americas could possibly be assembled in China, but Apple hasn’t officially announced anything about this.

Apple and its manufacturing partners have invested more than $200 million in the Austin, Texas Mac Pro manufacturing facility.

The new Mac Pro is designed and engineered in California. Apple uses 9,000 suppliers across all 50 states, and Mac Pro contains hundreds of components from companies in 19 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Vermont and Washington. This includes computer processors from Arizona and Oregon and graphics processors from New York, as well as electrical components from Maine, Pennsylvania and Texas.

In the announcement press release, Apple CEO TIm Cook said the following:

“Building the Mac Pro, Apple’s most powerful device ever, in Austin is both a point of pride and a testament to the enduring power of American ingenuity,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “With the construction of our new campus in Austin now underway, Apple is deepening our close bond with the city and the talented and diverse workforce that calls it home. Responsible for 2.4 million American jobs and counting, Apple is eager to write our next chapter here and to keep contributing to America’s innovation story.”

Apple says the new Mac Pro will begin shipping to customers in December, but hasn’t announced an exact date. Pricing will start at $5,999.
