Mark Gurman: 16-inch MacBook Pro Boasts 4% Larger Display Than 15.4-inch Model, Better Speakers & Noise-Cancelling Microphones

Apple’s new 16-inch MacBook Pro could be announced as soon as today, and Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman has shared additional details on the upcoming machine.

Gurman tweeted the additional information this morning, saying the new MacBook Pro boasts a display that is just under 4% larger than the 15.4-inch screen on the current largest MacBook Pro. Gurman says this suggests to him that “it’s really going to be about the higher resolution” rather than a significant leap in screen real estate.

While Gurman doesn’t offer exact details on screen resolution, other sources have claimed the 16-inch MacBook Pro could boast an LCD panel with a resolution of 3,072×1,920 pixels supplied by LG Display. The 15-inch MacBook Pro uses a panel with a resolution of 2,880×1,800 pixels.

Gurman says the new MacBook Pro model’s keyboard will be “similar to the iMac external Magic Keyboard.” He also mentions that the new model will sport “impressive speakers” and “noise cancelling microphones.”

Gurman said on Tuesday that the 16-inch MacBook Pro will replace the 15-inch MacBook Pro and will “cost about the same” as the current 15-model, which starts at $2,399.

The new 16-inch MacBook Pro will be the largest laptop Apple has sold since it discontinued the 17-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple has a dedicated location in New York City where the company occasionally holds private briefings with members of the press to reveal products and give them hands-on time with the products.

That is said to be happening this week, as Apple is holding private press meetings at the start of this week, suggesting that we could see a public announcement as soon as Wednesday.
