DOOM and DOOM II for iOS Now Runs at 60fps and Supports Free Add-ons

Bethesda has announced updates for the iOS versions of DOOM and DOOM II, which includes some notable new features for the venerable first-person shooters.

What’s New

Version 2.9.3

New Game Update

A new game update is now available for DOOM and DOOM II! The update brings some much requested features such as 60FPS, added Aspect Ratio Options, Quick Save and Load, Level Select, quality-of-life features and performance optimizations. Plus, we’ve implemented Add-on Support, which brings free downloadable maps to DOOM and DOOM II — including SIGIL, and the fan favorite “Final DOOM.” More free Add-ons will be added in the future.

The increase to 60fps (up from the original 35fps), will offer smoother gameplay, and the new aspect ratio options allow users to stretch the display vertically to match the 4:3 aspect ration of the original version.

Bethesda also added support for quick saves and a new option to select any episode, map, and difficulty setting for immediate play, with no need to clear the previous levels first.

The most important new feature for many players should prove to be support for DOOM and DOOM II community add-ons. The company will curate the add-ons and offer them as free downloads from the main menu. You will need a Bethesda.net account to access the add-ons. The company is also open to suggestions as to which community-made episodes that it should include in the future.

DOOM (find it here) and DOOM II (find it here) are available to download for iPhone and iPad from the App Store and both are available for $4.99 each.
