Leaker Says Apple Will Launch New Low-Cost iPad With A12 Chip Later This Year

An anonymous Twitter account that has previously been accurate with its Apple product leaks claims Apple’s eighth-generation iPad will be released later this year and will feature an A12 chip.

The new iPad will likely be a replacement for the seventh-generation iPad, which was an iterative update released in September 2019. While it offered a larger 10.2-inch display and support for new accessories, it used the same A10 Fusion chip as the sixth-generation iPad.

The tweet jibes with a Thursday comment from well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that claims Apple is working on two new ‌iPad‌ models, which include a 10.8-inch ‌‌iPad‌‌ and an 8.5 to 9-inch ‌‌iPad‌‌ mini. Kup says the new iPad will launch in the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021, respectively.

Kup expects the new iPad to follow the iPhone SE strategy, meaning more affordable price points for the new tablets.

The tweet is just the latest in a series of leaks from the anonymous “Lovetodream” account. The account has tweeted that some products and components have been delayed, including the new iMac models and the A14 chip. It has also indicated a 2021 release for a rumored 14-inch MacBook Pro.

The Twitter account has in the past been accurate in revealing several new products from Apple, revealing several details about the new iPhone SE, well ahead of other leakers. The account predicted the device would launch in the second quarter and would be available in three storage levels. It also accurately predicted the new iPad Pro release in the third week of March.
