Tim Cook and Other Big Tech CEOs To Testify in House Antitrust Subcommittee on July 27

Apple CEO Tim Cook and the CEOs of other large tech firms will testify in the U.S. House Judiciary Committee antitrust probe on July 27.

Congress is investigating whether the largest tech companies are pushing unfair competition against small companies and whether these decisions affect consumers. The committee’s concerns re: Apple focuses on the company’s App Store and the cut the company takes from sales in the store as well as in-app payments and subscriptions.

Since last June, the Subcommittee has been investigating the dominance of a small number of digital platforms and the adequacy of existing antitrust laws and enforcement. Given the central role these corporations play in the lives of the American people, it is critical that their CEOs are forthcoming. As we have said from the start, their testimony is essential for us to complete this investigation.

In addition to Apple’s Tim Cook, other tech CEOs will also testify, including Jeff Bezos from Amazon, Sundar Pichai from Google, and Mark Zuckerberg from Facebook. Cook saw increasing pressure to testify after those CEOs agreed to testify.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, current House Rules allow both witnesses and members to appear virtually. Additional details about the hearing format will be announced.

The hearing will take place on Monday, July 27 at 12:00 PM ET and will be live-streamed on the internet.
