Bloomberg: Apple Working on Smaller Form Factor Mac Pro Powered by Apple Silicon

Apple is reportedly designing a new Mac Pro that will boast a smaller form factor and be powered by Apple Silicon. Bloomberg reports the new Mac Pro is said to have a design that resembles the current design, but in a more compact case that’s “about half the size.”

It isn’t known whether the new Mac Pro will replace the current model or if it will be sold in addition to the current Mac Pro.

From Bloomberg:

Apple engineers are currently developing a new ‌Mac Pro‌ that looks like the current design at about half the size. It’s unclear if that Mac will replace the current ‌Mac Pro‌ or if it’s an additional model. Apple’s chip designs could help the company reduce the size of its computers due to increased power efficiency, but the current ‌Mac Pro‌ is large, in part, to fit components like additional storage drives and graphics chips.

The new Mac Pro will not debut until 2021 or even 2021, says the reports. Apple has plans to move all of its Mac lineup to Apple Silicon chips away from Intel chips, but that process will take two years to complete.

Apple on Monday announced a third virtual event, set for Tuesday, November 10. At the event, the Cupertino firm is expected to unveil a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 16-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌, and 13-inch MacBook Air, all of which will be equipped with ‌Apple Silicon‌ chips.
