Many iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Users Are Missing Messages and Notifications

Many iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro Users Are Missing Messages and Notifications

Many new iPhone 12 owners are reporting issues with the Messages app. Users complain that they aren’t seeing SMS messages from friends, are not getting text messages in group chats, and aren’t getting notifications of incoming text messages.

MacRumors reports numerous users are complaining of the above in their forums.

Currently, it isn’t clear if the issue is related specifically to the iPhone 12 models or if it’s an issue with iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2. However, the majority of complaints are coming from iPhone 12 owners.

Users having issues with receiving SMS text messages are simply not seeing some text messages sent from Android devices. One iPhone 12 user says he is in a group message with his kids, and one kid is an Android user. His kid asked why he hadn’t replied to two messages he had sent to the group. The user checked his iPhone and didn’t see the messages, but the kid showed him his Android device, which showed that he had sent the messages to the group.

Most of the iPhone 12 users who are missing SMS messages are not seeing them in group chats, but there are also reports of standalone messages not getting delivered.

Some users are reporting they receive messages, but don’t see a notification. That problem reportedly pre-dates the iPhone 12 and iOS 14.

Some Verizon customers have solved the SMS issue by downloading the Verizon Message+ app, but it doesn’t fix the issue for everyone and it doesn’t work for non-Verizon users. One user also reported success by resetting network settings (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings), but that hasn’t worked for other users. Toggling off 5G also does not seem to fix the issue.

So far, we haven’t heard a remedy to the issue, and whether it’s a firmware or a software issue. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
