Mayo Clinic Debuts Support for Apple Health Records Feature

Mayo Clinic patients can now take advantage of the Apple Health Records feature on the iPhone, which will allow them to add their medical records to the Health app. The feature allows patients to view and collect all of their health data in one easy-to-access location.

The Mayo Clinic joins a growing list of health institutions and care locations that offer support for the feature. Currently, over 700 institutions and 12,000 care locations offer support for Health Records in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Mayo Clinic patients with a Patient Services account can access their data through the Health app on their iPhone by using their Patient Services username and password.

“There are more ways than ever for patients to be actively engaged in their health care, and smartphone apps can be helpful for accessing records and tracking daily fitness and diet,” says Steve Ommen, M.D., medical director of Experience Products for Mayo Clinic’s Center for Digital Health. “We want patients who are interested in these apps to be able to use them securely and enhance their health care at Mayo Clinic.”

The iPhone retrieves health records via an encrypted connection, storing the data on the user’s device where it is encrypted with a passcode to ensure the patient’s privacy. Apple does not have access to the patient’s health records data.

Apple first announced the Health Records API in 2018. It allows developers to integrate Apple health features into their apps.
