Foxconn’s Zhengzhou Plant Hit by Flooding, Loses Power

The severe flooding in the Zhengzhou region of China caused the power to fail at Foxconn’s iPhone facility, with water getting into portions of the factory before production resumed.

While Foxconn earlier this week said the severe flooding in the region has not affected production, the company now admits that production at some of its plants had been interrupted.

As reported by the Wall Street Journalthe company’s three factories in Zhengzhou were shut down as their power supply was cut. Water apparently made into some portions of the plant, and factory workers have been given time off.

The power outage was reportedly due to a city-wide blackout, which caused Foxconn’s production to shut down for several hours. At least one assembly worker said he had been submerged in water up to his thighs at one point.

While Foxconn has reportedly been moving equipment and inventory away from the flooded areas of their plants, there have been no reports of any serious damage.

Foxconn instructed most workers to take time off or to work from home until notified. However, some assembly lines are said to remain operational.
