Spatial Audio Now Available to Clubhouse iOS Users

Social audio app Clubhouse, which became quite popular this year, is now rolling out spatial audio support to the iOS app. The announcement came via the app’s Twitter account.

The tweet announced the new feature on Sunday, and also provided a brief demo of the feature, explaining that spatial audio is “like surround sound, but with your own headphones.” The feature doesn’t use Apple’s version of spatial audio, which also includes head tracking to make it sound like the sound is coming from your iPhone or iPad,

The example showed individual speakers on a Clubhouse call that can be heard as if their voices are in separate locations within a three-dimensional space around the listener, making it seem like everyone is situated in different places in a single room. Users won’t hear spatial audio when they’re on stage, only when they’re in the audience. Android support is on its way.

With the release of iOS 15, Apple plans to add spatial audio to FaceTime calls.

Clubhouse is free and is available for download from the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
