Social audio app Clubhouse, which became quite popular this year, is now rolling out spatial audio support to the iOS app. The announcement came via the app’s Twitter account.
Hear ye, hear ye š spAAaAaAatial audio on Clubhouse!
It's like surround sound, but w/ your own headphones. A more vibrant, human experience! Plus makes it much easier to tell who's talking.

The tweet announced the new feature on Sunday, and also provided a brief demo of the feature, explaining thatĀ spatial audio is “like surround sound, but with your own headphones.” The feature doesn’t use Apple’s version of spatial audio, which also includes head tracking to make it sound like the sound is coming from yourĀ iPhoneĀ orĀ iPad,
The example showed individual speakers on a Clubhouse call that can beĀ heard as if their voices are in separate locations within a three-dimensional space around the listener, making it seem like everyone is situated in different places in a single room. Users won’t hear spatial audio when they’re on stage, only when they’re in the audience. Android support is on its way.
With the release of iOS 15, Apple plans to add spatial audio to FaceTime calls.
